Parking is close and free in most locations in Downtown Norman. Recent changes to the Gray Street Parking Lot have been instituted by the City of Norman. Here are those changes:
City of Norman Press Release
In consultation with area merchants and in accordance with the original plan for the construction and development of the City’s Downtown (Gray Street) Parking Lot, beginning Tuesday, August 25, 2015, customers will again be required to pay by the hour to park in the lot.
Parking fees, which will remain at 25 cents per hour, will be in force on non-holiday weekdays, between 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. Parking will remain free after hours, weekends and holidays, as well as outside of the enforcement hours.
To manage the lot, the City has numbered each individual space and installed a state-of- the-art meter system that features three multi-space meters conveniently located throughout the lot. The new meters will offer a number of options for completion of the payment transaction. Initially, customers will be able to pay using coins or credit/debit cards. Credit/debit card payments can be made at the meter or via cellular phone.
During the first few days of operation, City staff will be on-site during the morning rush hour to assist customers with the use of the new equipment. Norman Parking Enforcement Officers will monitor the lot and issue courtesy warnings to those customers who fail to pay for the use of a parking space.
The cost of the new parking lot management system is financed through a partnership between the Norman Downtowner’s Association and the City of Norman.
