The Firehouse Art Center is proud to present a new exhibition, Skip Hill: Works on Paper.
The FAC Gallery will become a dual purpose working studio space and evolving gallery exhibition featuring the work of local artist Skip Hill. This two-month residency will afford the general public an opportunity to view Hill's creative process and production as he uses assorted media and drawing techniques to create dynamic works on paper.
Skip's creative workspace will be in the center of the gallery, while the walls of the space will be lined with finished artwork, with the exhibition developing and transforming throughout its duration. He will be primarily creating the mixed media drawings he has been focused on since his return from Brazil. "I am excited about bringing my world of color and creativity to the Firehouse Art Center as a visiting studio artist," said Hill. Community members and students are invited to engage with Hill as he develops his work, as well as participate in two hands-on workshops with Skip following the exhibition's opening.
Skip Hill's body of work spans the surreal and effervescent, communicating through emotional intent rather than a specific agenda or narrative. His mixed-media drawings feature lyrical aesthetic qualities and a medley of cultural influences and symbolism. Hill's original paintings, drawings, murals, and limited edition prints are in private collections and public spaces across the globe; Skip has traveled, lived, and exhibited throughout the United States, Europe, Southeast Asia, Brazil and North Africa.
The FAC is open Monday - Friday 9:30 AM - 5:30 PM and Saturdays from 10 AM - 4 PM. Skip Hill: Works on Paper will remain open until March 19, with another reception in conjunction with the Norman 2nd Friday Art Walk on Friday, March 11 from 6 - 9 PM.
