Art Exhibit - Firehouse Talent

  • Firehouse Art Center 444 South Flood Avenue Norman, OK, 73069 United States (map)

The Firehouse Art Center is pleased to present the artwork of its adult student artists in this year’s Firehouse Talent exhibition. The exhibition features pieces from students who took classes at the Firehouse during the past year, and who were selected by the FAC’s teaching faculty as individuals of outstanding talent and creativity. The Art Center is open Monday - Friday, 9:30 am - 5:30 pm, and Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.

The artwork in this year’s exhibition represents a range of the mediums taught at the Firehouse, including jewelry, drawing, fused glass, sculpture, ceramics, photography, and painting. Firehouse Talent serves as a way to recognize the exceptional skills of the FAC’s adult student artists, many of whom have never shown their work in a professional gallery. These individuals come from diverse occupational and personal backgrounds, with a variety of experiences that visibly impact their artwork and approach to their art-making processes.

Firehouse Talent exemplifies the FAC’s mission to provide the highest quality visual arts education, experiences, and exhibitions, including the organization’s dedication to its students. “Firehouse Art Center is a jewel in the crown of art. Having a center that offers classes to educate children and adults in different areas of visual art is important to a community. The exhibitions of art work bring the community together during monthly art receptions,” said Judy Osburn, a longtime student of the jewelry program at the Firehouse. Fused glass student Ramona Taylor further emphasized the importance of community art centers and the camaraderie fostered by Firehouse classes saying, “I am amazed that I can shoot over [to the Firehouse] after work, talk to some nice people I've come to know, admire their art too and learn so much about making beautiful pieces myself.”

The Firehouse Art Center is funded in part by select grants from the Oklahoma Arts Council, Norman Arts Council, Allied Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the City of Norman, as well as corporate sponsorships from Republic Bank & Trust and Fowler Automotive. The FAC’s programming would not be possible without the support of individual donors and memberships.
